HISTORY

Las Gaviotas has a rich history as the areas most successful residential resort. In 1972 a development group from the San Francisco Bay area purchased an oceanfront parcel of land in the area South of what was, at the time, the village of Playas de Rosarito. The land was in an area known as Bahia Descanso ("Restful Bay"). They subdivided the parcel into approximately 290 lots, all with terraced ocean views. The careful attention to terra-forming and beach protection created what is still the unique nature that gives Las Gaviotas its charm today. Over the next 10 years most of the lots were developed, a regiema de condomino (binding covenant) was established and the amenities were finalized into what is still "The Crown Jewel of Baja's Gold Coast"
